Scope and Contents

This collection comprises of the correspondence, reports, rosters, ledgers, and other records of Minnesota National Guard companies that were stationed at the St. Peter Armory during its existence these include Company K, 2nd Infantry Regiment; Company B, 5th Minnesota Infantry Regiment; Company D, 205th Infantry Regiment; and Battery B, 215th Coastal Artillery. Aside from these records, the armory also stored the enlistment records for the aforementioned units as well as other units stationed in southern Minnesota.

History Note

The armory at St. Peter, Minnesota was originally constructed between 1912 - 1913 and served many Minneosta National Guard units the first was Company K of the 2nd Minneosta infantry. The unit served during during the 1916 - 1917 Mexican Border War and World War One. After World War One the Minneosta National Guard was reorganized, as a result the armory became the station to Company D, 205th Infantry Regiment. In July 1940 the 205th Infantry Regiment was reorganized and converted into a coastal artillery regiments, as apart of this conversion Company D, 205th Infantry Regiment became Battery D, 215th Coastal Artillery Regiment while still being based in St. Peter. Eventually, this St. Peter unit was deployed to the Aleutian Islands. After World War Two, the Minnesota National Guard was reorganized again. HTe St. Peter unit was designated a Service Battery of hte First Battaion, 125th Field Artillery of hte 47th Division. The St. Peter Armory remained in use until 1983 when a new armory was completed. The old St. Peter Armory was added to the National Register of Histoic Places in 1997.
