Biographical / Historical

Jake Ebensteiner entered in to the United States Army on September 18, 1917, and was sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa where he remained until his discharge from the service as a private first class on September 26, 1919 at Camp Dodge. After the war, he returned to Minnesota and lived in Sauk Center working as a farmer. John Ebensteiner entered into the United States Army on September 4, 1918, training with the 41st Company or the 161st Depot Brigade. He was later assigned to Group Two of the Machine Gun Training Corps at Camp Hancock, Georgia. He was discharged from the service with the rank of private at Camp Dodge, Iowa on February 28, 1919. After the war lived in Fairbault, Minnesota and joined Soil Conservation Service within the United States Department of Agriculture.

The collection was separated based on the creator and/or collector of the photographs. Series 1 is the photographs of Jake Ebensteiner and Series 2 are fhe photographs of John Ebensteiner.

Separated Materials

Photograph 4.1.35 of the Jake Ebensteiner was seperated from the main series due to its large size and is stored with the John Ebensteiner series in Photograph Flat File #1.
