Historical Note

The Department of War was originally formed in 1789 as an Executive Department of the United States, and was renamed by the National Security Act of 1947 to the Department of the Army on September 18, 1947.

PS Magazine, also known as the Preventive Maintenance Monthly, is an official publication of the Army, providing information for all soldiers assigned to combat and combat duties. The magazine covers issues concerning maintenance, maintenance procedures and supply problems. Each series comprises of issues for a specific year with the index for each year being issued last and sometimes printed into the following year. This collection spans from 1955 to 2009.
