1953 June 17 53-47:
When Btry C, 125th Field Artillery Battalion goes to summer camp, it means unlimbering the 105 howitzers and firing live ammunition on the Camp Ripley ranges. But before actual firing begins, everyone must know his part on the team. Here T/Sgt Arthur Peterson, l, points out some of the details to Cpl Robert Svoboda, Pfc Lawrence Vacek, Pfc Keith Harnden, and Cpl Wayne Smith; while Sgt Duane Larson, front, checks the piece. All the men are from Jackson except Cpl Smith who is from Fairmont. Capt Harry E. Parker is commanding officer of C Btry.

1953 June 18 53-58:
Experienced soldiers know that a rifle is always dangerous, they know that one should never consider a rifle unloaded. S M/Sgt Martin Opsahl, Co M, 135th Infantry Regiment, Pipestone, checks the piece by opening the chamber to keep the rifle in a safe condition. Before they went on the firing line with the rest of his buddies in he 47th 'Viking' division, he checked the sights, too, for accuracy. Opsdahl is one of almost 3,000 Minnesota National Guardsmen who are at Camp Ripley, near Little Falls, for 15 days of summer field training - the first such session for the 47th division since 1950 - the encampment will end June 28.
