This record contains the personal collection of Sidney E. Anderson, including 7 photographs and two scrapbooks from his deployment in Iran and Mesopotamia [Iraq] from 1943 to 1944. It also contains a pocket guide to Iran.

Biographical Note
Sidney E. Anderson was born on November 2, 1914 in Adams, Minnesota. After high school, he found work as a farmhand before being inducted into the United States Army on August 25, 1942. He was called up to active service on September 8, 1942 at Camp Dodge in Iowa. Anderson was deployed with the 298th Quartermaster Salvage Repair Company and was stationed in Khorramshahr, Iran, where he worked to maintain Buda diesel engines. He returned to the United States on August 13, 1945, and was honorably discharged from the 574th Composite Service Platoon on November 6, 1945, having been awarded a Good Conduct Medal, and achieving the rank of TEC - 5 [corporal]. Anderson returned to farming in Spring Valley, Minnesota where he lived for the next ten years, moving his family up to Babbitt, Minnesota in 1955 where he took work at the Reserve Mining Co. He continued to live in Babbitt until his passing on June 12, 1999.
